Ashley Artmann - Ashley Artmann is currently a junior at Stanford University majoring in English and Communication. She has loved her time at Stanford and grown much as a person, but her days back at Green Valley HS in Las Vegas, NV aren’t too foggy in her memory either. Ashley was an IB student who was in love with Forensics (Speech and Debate), dabbled in classical piano, and enjoyed her public high school experience to the fullest. While she had good grades with SAT and AP/IB numbers working in her favor, when it came to getting into Stanford, what made her stand out was her essays. All articles by Ashley
Atasha Jordan - Atasha Jordan is a current undergraduate at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. As a pre-medical student, Atasha is majoring in Neurobiology with a citation in French. Atasha was born in Barbados, an island nation in the Caribbean, but she has spent the majority of her life in the US – first in South Florida and now in Newtown, Pennsylvania. While in high school, Atasha found time to play varsity Volleyball and Track & Field and serve as the President of the Christian Fellowship Club, all while working to become the valedictorian of her graduating class. Outside of school Atasha volunteered in many different capacities, but the theme was always the same: education.
At Harvard, Atasha is just as active as she was in high school. She is a board member of the Harvard Society of Black Scientists and Engineers in addition to being a staff member of the Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations. James Watanabe - James grew up in the midwest, to two parents who met in New York as two Japanese exchange students studying for grad school. He had a mother who was the stereotypical "asian tiger mom.” Instead of playing outside, he played violin. He did okay at school, but never stellar. He always had a few Bs on his report card and was considered a B+/A- student. James went to a normal public high school in Missouri and did the typical asian activities--math club, science club, dabbled in chess, loved video games. His grades were pretty mediocre in high school—He got a C his sophomore year and a few Bs on almost every report card--but he managed to get into MIT.
James loved MIT. He ended up making lifelong friends and the coursework really challenged him to think more rationally. It also introduced him to entrepreneurship. Since then, he has started a few companies--one that was bought by a pretty famous Fortune 500 company in Seattle and another after college that was bought by a Fortune 500 company in San Francisco. He is now starting another company in Silicon Valley. All articles by James
Joyce Ding - Joyce Ding comes from Shanghai, China. Her real Chinese name is Shuyu, but because Americans called her “shoot you,” she picked a more joyful name for herself. She started to play chess at the age of 8, because she just loved to sit face-to-face with another person silently for hours. She ended up winning the 3rd place in the World Youth Chess Championship. She quit chess and committed four years of her life to what she thought were dollar signs ($), but it turned out to be just Stanford’s mascot (a big S with a tree in it). In her sophomore year at Stanford, she studied and did an internship in Germany for 6 months. In spring of her junior year, she studied in Washington, D.C. and did an internship at the World Bank. The next summer, she interned at Morgan Stanley in NYC. She loved the daily salmon in Morgan Stanley's cafeteria so she committed to go back full-time after graduation. All articles by Joyce

For Sandy, getting into Stanford was a dream come true. At Stanford, she continued her formal training in the piano, studied abroad in Japan, and was also involved in the Society of Women Engineers. As a Mayfield Fellow, she was very interested in entrepreneurship and also worked at a start-up.
